Screenshots and Basic Troubleshooting
Last Updated about a month ago

Screenshots can help East Carolina Computers see exactly what you are seeing on the screen and may make troubleshooting faster.

Take a Screenshot in Windows

  1. Press Windows key + Shift + S.
  2. Select the area of the screen you want to capture.
  3. The screenshot will be copied so you can paste it into an email, document, or support message.

You can also press Print Screen to capture the full screen on many keyboards.

Before Contacting Support

  • Restart the computer.
  • Close and reopen the affected program.
  • Check that cables and network connections are secure.
  • Write down or capture any error message.
  • Note what you were doing when the problem occurred.

Avoid Unnecessary System Changes

Do not make major system changes or install random repair tools unless you know they are safe or an East Carolina Computers technician has instructed you to use them.
