Frequently Asked Question
Restarting Modems and Routers
Last Updated 3 days ago
Restarting your modem and router can clear many temporary connection problems.
To restart them safely:
- Unplug the power from the modem and router
- Wait about 30 seconds
- Plug the modem back in first
- Wait for the modem to fully reconnect
- Plug the router back in
- Wait a few minutes for Wi-Fi and internet access to return
If you have one device that combines the modem and router, unplug that device, wait about 30 seconds, then plug it back in.
Do not press the Reset button unless instructed to do so. A factory reset can erase network settings and may require the equipment to be reconfigured.
If the connection still does not return, contact East Carolina Computers for assistance.
