Basic Connectivity Troubleshooting
Last Updated 3 days ago

If a computer is having trouble connecting to the internet or network, work through these basic steps:

  • Restart the computer
  • Check that Wi-Fi is enabled or the network cable is connected securely
  • Confirm whether other devices can connect
  • Restart the modem and router if multiple devices are affected
  • Disconnect and reconnect to the Wi-Fi network
  • Check for any obvious error messages
  • Make sure Airplane Mode is turned off

If only one computer is affected, the issue may be with that computer’s network adapter, settings, drivers, or software.

If multiple devices are affected, the problem may be with the router, modem, internet service, or local network equipment.

If the problem continues after these basic checks, contact East Carolina Computers for assistance.
