Tech support scams often try to create panic and convince you to give someone remote access to your computer.

Common warning signs include:

• An unexpected phone call claiming your computer has a problem
• A pop-up saying your computer is infected and telling you to call a number
• Someone asking you to install remote access software
• Requests for payment by gift card, cryptocurrency, wire transfer, or other unusual methods
• Claims that your computer, Microsoft account, bank account, or internet connection will be shut down unless you act immediately

If you receive a suspicious support request:

• Do not install anything
• Do not provide passwords
• Do not give the caller remote access
• Close the message or end the call
