Suspicious links and attachments are common ways attackers try to steal information or infect computers.

Be cautious when a message:

• Comes from someone you do not recognize
• Contains an unexpected attachment
• Asks you to click a link to verify an account
• Creates urgency or threatens account suspension
• Uses a web address that looks slightly different from the real company
• Asks for passwords, payment information, or other sensitive data

Before clicking a link, move your mouse over it and check where it actually leads.

If you are unsure about an attachment or link, do not open it. Contact the sender through a trusted method or ask East Carolina Computers to help verify it.

If you already clicked a suspicious link or opened an unexpected attachment, contact ECC as soon as possible.
